What if there were a book that had all the answers—answers to questions, thoughts, and even what you should do in certain situations? This book would be so popular, and everyone would be reading it and really diving into it to learn all the answers.
The great thing is there is a book that has all the answers, and it is called the Bible, God’s inspired Word. You might say, “Yeah I know the Bible has all the answers but it just doesn’t work for me.” Well why doesn’t it? This is God’s Word to you and me. Why doesn’t it work for you?
I think this is the answer.
We do not approach God’s Word in the correct way. God’s Word isn’t just some book to read for the sole purpose of gaining knowledge, although one can gain great knowledge from this book. God’s Word isn’t just some answer book to tell you what you should do in every situation! No, God’s Word is the compilation of His words to you.
Let’s look at it this way, when you meet someone for the first time and you want to get to know them better what do you do? You spend time talking, interacting, and just being together so that you know more about them. This is exactly what God’s Word is for. God’s Word is where we get to know God. Why don’t we view this book as God’s love letter to us so that we can really know God? Because this takes a supernatural grace for the Holy Spirit to illuminate God’s Word so it becomes alive and speaks to us.
So you say, “I’ve tried reading God’s Word and I get nothing.” Well, ask the Holy Spirit to make the Word alive and real to you. Why would He not answer this request? Don’t wait for God to just zap you and give you the desire to get into His Word. Listen to what Jesus said to the religious people in his day, “Are you not therefore mistaken, because you do not know the Scriptures nor the power of God?” (Mark 12:24)
I challenge you, dig into the Word. Ask the Holy Spirit to take the Word and make it alive and living so that you may walk in it.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (John 1:1)
